Dầu thô giao tháng 10 tăng 56 cent lên mức 86.58 USD/thùng tại sàn New York Mercantile Exchange và đạt 86.30 USD/thùng lúc 10h30, giờ Sydney. Giá hợp đồng hôm qua giảm 43 cent xuống còn 86.02, mức thấp nhất kể từ hôm 26/8. Giá hiện Ä‘ã tăng 16% so vá»›i năm ngoái.

Dầu thô Brent giao tháng 10 giữ mức 112.89 USD/thùng tại sàn ICE Futures Europe – London. Giá hợp đồng hôm qua tăng 2.81 USD lên mức 112.89 USD/thùng. Giao dịch chuẩn châu Âu có có giá cao hÆ¡n 26.65 USD so vá»›i giao dịch Mỹ. Chốt phiên hôm qua, chênh lệch giá giữa 2 loại hợp đồng này chạm mức 26.87 USD.

Cục quản lý năng lượng đại dÆ°Æ¡ng cho biết, cÆ¡n bão nhiệt Ä‘á»›i Lee Ä‘ã làm gián Ä‘oạn 60.5 % sản lượng dầu mỏ và 41.6% khí tá»± nhiên của vùng vịnh Mexico.

Oil Gains on Forecast Supply Drop; Weather System Builds in Gulf of Mexico

Oil advanced from the lowest in more than a week in New York amid signs of shrinking crude stockpiles in the U.S. and speculation a storm building in the Gulf of Mexico posed a threat to supply in the world’s biggest consumer of the commodity.

West Texas Intermediate gained as much as 0.7 percent. An Energy Department report tomorrow may show inventories declined 2.25 million barrels last week as Tropical Storm Lee shut production in the gulf, a Bloomberg News survey of analysts showed. Another disturbance in Mexico’s Bay of Campeche has a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm, according to the NationalHurricaneCenter.

“When production is withdrawn the price will naturally want to rise,” said David Lennox, a resource analyst at Fat Prophets in Sydney. “Unless there is significant damage to fields it won’t be long-term. We are looking for WTI to trade within the $80 to $90 range per barrel.”

Crude for October delivery rose as much as 56 cents to $86.58 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange and was at $86.30 at 10:30 a.m. Sydney time. The contract yesterday slid 43 cents to $86.02, the lowest close since Aug. 26. Prices are 16 percent higher the past year.

Brent oil for October settlement was unchanged at $112.89 a barrel on the ICE Futures Europe Exchange. The contract yesterday increased $2.81 to $112.89. The European benchmark contract was at premium of $26.65 to U.S. futures, compared with yesterday’s record close of $26.87.

Gulf Output

About 60.5 percent of oil production and 41.6 percent of natural gas output from the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in after Tropical Storm Lee passed through the region, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement said yesterday. Lee has dissipated after making landfall and soaking Louisiana and much of the GulfCoast, according to the NationalHurricaneCenter.

The Bay of Campeche, where conditions are conducive for spinning up strong storms, holds rigs and platforms owned by Petroleos Mexicanos. The Gulf of Mexico is home to 27 percent of U.S. oil output and 6.5 percent of the country’s natural gas production.

The Energy Department is scheduled to release its weekly report at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Washington, a day late because of the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 5.

The report may show gasoline inventories slipped 1.45 million barrels, according to the Bloomberg News survey of analysts. Distillate-fuel supplies, a category that includes heating oil and diesel, probably fell 200,000 barrels, the survey shows.

Service industries unexpectedly expanded at a faster pace in August, easing concern the biggest part of the U.S. economy was slumping, according to data yesterday. The Institute for Supply Management’s index of non-manufacturing businesses increased to 53.3 last month from 52.7 in July. Economists forecast the gauge would drop to 51, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey.
