HANOI, May 13 (Bernama) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Vietnam and Azerbaijan have great potential to cooperate in the oil and gas sector, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Aliyev said in an interview with VNA ahead of Vietnam's President Truong Tan Sang's visit to Azerbaijan that both countries have extensive experience in the area.

An agreement on strategic cooperation between Azerbaijani national oil and gas corporation and Vietnam's state oil and gas corporation PetroVietnam is expected to offer many prospects.

Aliyev noted that the pact on trade, scientific and technical cooperation between the two governments serves as a firm foundation for bilateral economic ties.

"The two countries have also substantial potential to deepen cooperation in education, culture and tourism," he said.

Sang's upcoming trip to Azerbaijan is highly significant for the development of ties in politics, economy and other areas.
