Vietnam's crude oil exports decrease sharply: ministry

HANOI, June 1 (Xinhua) -- In the first five months of 2015, Vietnam saw a sharp year-on-year decrease in exports of crude oil, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)'s Export- Import Department on Monday.

Specifically, during the five-month period, Vietnam exported nearly 3.6 million tons of crude oil worth 1.54 billion U.S. dollars, down 5 percent in volume and 53 percent in value year-on- year.

In May alone, the country made 246 million U.S. dollars from exporting 590,000 tons of crude oil, down 31 percent in value and 25 percent in volume against the previous month.

However, May figures posted a year-on-year sharp plunge of 76 percent in value and 50 percent in volume compared to the same period in 2014, reported MoIT's Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center on Monday.

Regarding exports of petroleum, in January-May period, Vietnam exported some 451,000 tons of petroleum of all kinds with revenue of 265 million U.S. dollars, down 27 percent in volume and 50 percent in value year-on-year.
