In the early April, cooking gas distributors have simultaneously reduced retail price for the domestic market by VND72,000 a cylinder of 12kg folllowing the fall of price in the world market.

However, according to an estimation of gas retailer in Ho Chi Minh city, gas price in the international market is lower much than retail price in the domestic market.

In detail, gas price for April delivery in the world market is at USD992.5 a tonne, downed by USD212,5 a tonne from March. All taxes (premium, VAT), price at Ho Chi Minh ports is less than USD1,200 a tonne.

With the exchange rate at VND 21,000 per USD, price of gas is only at VND23,000 a kg, equivalent to VND276,000 a cylinder of 12kg.

Combine with other costs such as shipping and management charges, profit, cylinder depreciation …are about VND30,000 and agent and retailer discounts are about VND30,000-40,000 a cylinder, retail prices of cooking gas in Vietnam stay at VND336,000-346,000 a cylinder, however, retail price still keep higher at VND405,000-442,000 a cylinder of 12kg (depend on branchs).
